LOWDOWN
Twilight New Moon brings together Kristen Bell (Twilight, Adventure land), Robert Pattinson (Twilight, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Taylor Lautner (Twilight, Shark Boy and Lava Girl) to star in the next part of the Twilight Saga. The movies are based on the books by Stephanie Meyer. Bella, a high school student, is in love with a vampire named Edward Cullin. Edward feels that being around Bella will only end up hurting her so he leaves to protect her. Bella feels she can’t live without Edward. She deals with the pain by emerging herself into adrenalin filled stunts. Through this damaging process, she finds herself reunited with her friend Jacob and that seems to ease her pain for the time being. Jacob seems to be unstable at one point and his secrets begin to unfold. Edward then finds his way back into Bella’s life through some interesting events.

DIG
From an entertainment perspective I didn’t enjoy New Moon as much as I thought I would have. This movie seemed to really drag on. Something a bit exciting would happen for a minute or two, then it would continue to drag on again. The acting was a little bit of an improvement from the Twilight movie though.

Personally, I found the relationship between Bella and Edward to be soooo unhealthy. She is obsessed with him to the extreme of hurting herself, and everyone around her just so she can get a glimpse of him. Also, Edward is very controlling and he never takes into consideration what Bella has to say and is always making decisions for her.

SPARK

  • Do you think the relationship between Bella and Edward is healthy or unhealthy and why?
  • What kind of attraction and dating relationships do you see amongst your friends at school?
  • If you had the chance to become a vampire would you go through with it? If so, why?
  • Did you see New Moon? What did you think?

FINAL THOUGHTS
I think New Moon is dangerous to a degree because teenage girls are watching it and thinking this is such a beautiful story, they all want to be Bella. This isn’t the kind of relationship that God says he wants for us in the bible. Check out 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. It’s a short well-known passage that explains exactly how God loves us and how we should love each other.
